By: Express News ServiceChandigarh | January 18, 2026 10:18 AM IST 2 min readThree gangsters clash inside Burail Jail factory area in Chandigarh, one seriously injured, police register case after jail staff intervention.Recently, a violent clash broke out between three gangsters lodged in Burail Jail here, leaving one inmate seriously injured.The incident had occurred inside the factory area of the jail on January 7, prompting swift intervention by jail staff and the registration of a criminal case by the police on Friday.According to the police, the case was registered at Sector 49 police station on the complaint of Tarun, a jail warden posted at the Model Jail Complex, Sector 51, Chandigarh.As per the police, inmates Kailash Chauhan, Amritpal Singh, alias Gurjar, and Manjeet, alias Mota, were involved in a quarrel and attacked each other with iron rods inside the jail around 11.20 am.During the scuffle, Chauhan suffered serious injuries and was shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32.Police sources said Chauhan, a native of Faridabad, is an alleged gangster who was arrested in connection with a conspiracy to murder gangster Bhupi Rana. The other two accused inmates also have criminal backgrounds.Manjeet, alias Mota Rahul, is allegedly involved in the Sonu Shah murder case of Burail, while Amritpal Singh, alias Gurjar, was arrested earlier for allegedly opening fire at the residence of businessman Kuldeep Singh Makkar in Sector 5.In his complaint, jail warden Tarun stated that he was on duty in the factory area when, around 11.30 am, the three inmates suddenly ran towards the area, picked up iron angles lying there and began attacking each other. When Tarun and other wardens tried to intervene and stop the fight, the inmates allegedly pushed and manhandled the jail staff. All three inmates were lodged in the same barrack after separating them.Police officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and how the inmates gained access to iron rods inside the jail premises.
