If there’s one thing you can usually count on at Walt Disney World, it’s that construction walls are never too far away. Resorts are constantly receiving refreshes, room reimaginings, or even complete overhauls. But one property stands out for how little attention it has received in recent years: Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. While other hotels across property are buzzing with cranes, scaffolding, and tarps, Saratoga Springs feels stuck in time—leaving many fans to wonder when its turn will finally come.Credit: DisneyA Resort with a Long, Winding HistorySaratoga Springs isn’t just another Disney Vacation Club resort. Its roots stretch back to the early 1970s, when the land was first developed as part of Disney’s Lake Buena Vista residential community. Those homes never fully materialized due to legal and taxation hurdles, and the villas were eventually repurposed into hotel space. Over the years, the property cycled through identities as The Village Resort, the Disney Institute, and finally, beginning in 2004, Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.The resort expanded in phases over five years, with entire neighborhoods—Congress Park, The Springs, The Paddock, The Carousel, and The Grandstand—being added in stages. Its final major addition came in 2009, when the beloved Treehouse Villas opened along the Sassagoula River. Since then, there have been a few refurbs, including phased updates to the treehouses, but no major additions.Overshadowed by Its NeighborsSaratoga Springs sits in a prime location directly across the water from Disney Springs, yet it doesn’t generate the same buzz as other resorts. Despite having loyal Disney Vacation Club members who swear by it, the hotel hasn’t seen any major upgrades in over 16 years. Compare that to other resorts:Grand Floridian – The iconic flagship is in the middle of a sweeping overhaul, which has included reimagined guest rooms, new “Enchanted Gardens” décor across its buildings, and a dramatic lobby transformation with the upcoming Birdcage Bar.Polynesian Village Resort – Fresh off the debut of its brand-new Island Tower, the Polynesian continues to see refurbishments through 2026, including updates to its bus loop and entrance roadway.Pop Century & All-Star Resorts – Even value resorts are receiving phased room refreshes, new flooring, and updated food court spaces.Against this backdrop, Saratoga Springs feels forgotten—especially when you consider how much Disney Vacation Club has grown in the years since its last update.Credit: DisneyWhat’s Different About SaratogaPart of the issue is scale. Saratoga Springs is massive, with sprawling villa buildings spread out across the property. Updating a resort of this size would be a major undertaking, likely requiring years of phased work. That could explain why Disney has opted to focus its resources elsewhere first, but it doesn’t erase the fact that the resort is falling behind in guest expectations.Modern Disney hotel refurbishments often bring in more than just new carpets and paint. They tend to feature themed artwork, updated furniture, and subtle nods to Disney stories. Saratoga’s horse-racing theme still carries charm, but compared to the newly refreshed rooms at Beach Club, or the princess-inspired spaces at Port Orleans Riverside, it risks feeling outdated.Construction Elsewhere Puts It in PerspectiveTo really understand how overdue Saratoga’s updates are, you only need to look around property right now:Animal Kingdom Lodge is undergoing a major refurbishment through 2027, including guest rooms at both Kidani Village and Jambo House.Fort Wilderness is in the middle of a dramatic transformation, with its original cabins being replaced by brand-new Disney Vacation Club cabins. Work on the long-paused Disney Lakeshore Lodge is also back in full swing nearby.Wilderness Lodge continues with exterior and villa refurbishments, projected to stretch into 2027.Beach Club & Yacht Club are receiving exterior maintenance, fresh interiors, and updated lobby areas.Everywhere you look, something is being updated—except Saratoga Springs.Credit: DisneyWhy Fans Are Waiting for NewsFor longtime guests, the lack of movement at Saratoga is frustrating. Many who love the resort point to its proximity to Disney Springs, its large villas that cater to families, and its relaxing setting as big positives. But in today’s Disney landscape, those perks are no longer enough to stand out.Other resorts are becoming destinations in themselves thanks to new dining, bars, and lobby redesigns. The Grand Floridian’s Birdcage Bar is a perfect example of how even subtle changes can generate excitement. Saratoga Springs, by contrast, hasn’t given guests anything new to talk about in years.Looking AheadWhile Disney hasn’t announced specific plans, history suggests Saratoga Springs’ turn will eventually come. The resort is simply too large and too important to the Disney Vacation Club portfolio to be left untouched forever. With so much construction currently underway across property, it’s possible Disney is simply waiting until other projects wrap before tackling one of its most sprawling resorts. When it does happen, guests can likely expect updated furnishings, refreshed décor, and perhaps even new dining or recreational spaces to help it compete with Disney’s newer offerings. Until then, Saratoga Springs remains something of an outlier—a nearly abandoned corner of Disney World’s hotel lineup, waiting for the pixie dust to fall its way again. The post Disney World Hotel Nearly Abandoned, Updates Expected appeared first on Inside the Magic.
