Colin Cowherd voices doubts on Arch Manning's path because of money and fame

Wait 5 sec.

Everyone knows Arch Manning is one of college football's most hyped quarterbacks. Much of that hype is coming from the weight his famous last name carries. Now, as the Texas Longhorns QB1, he faces the challenge of proving he has the talent to live up to the legacy. So far, however, he has yet to fully show it, and his struggles have prompted analyst Colin Cowherd to express serious doubts about his future."Fair to say that Arch Manning will not be coming out of college football this year. It's been a disaster," Cowherd said on his show on Wednesday. "He is literally last in the SEC among all quarterbacks in completion percentage and near the bottom in everything else. Of 14 quarterbacks with three-plus starts, he's 12th or worse in virtually everything. It doesn't look good, the production's bad, it just doesn't look right."Do Manning's privileged upbringing and lack of personal adversity play a key role in his disappointing season? Cowherd thinks so."He's never had turbulence," Cowherd said. "He grew up with money, he grew up with fame, he goes to Texas. This turbulence is important. It's not a coincidence that all these guys had to overcome stuff."If anyone thinks talent and pedigree alone will guarantee success, they are wrong, according to Cowherd."If it was just, hey, the best high schooler goes to the best college, goes to the NFL, it almost never works that way," he added. So far in the 2025 season, Manning's numbers have been underwhelming compared to preseason expectations. He has completed just 55.3% of his passes for 579 yards, tossing six touchdowns against three interceptions through three starts. The Texas Longhorns have a 2-1 record, including the opening loss to Ohio State and wins over San Jose State and UTEP.
