Admitted at the Venkateshwar Hospital in Dwarka’s Sector 10, a bedridden Kaur bid a tearful adieu to her partner hours before his final rites when the family brought his body to the hospital.Placed on a white stretcher, Navjot’s body was brought close to Sandeep, who stretched her hands to touch him for the last time — sobbing and gasping helplessly. “We protected her for as long as we could. But today she had to know. She is still in shock,” said a relative. The couple was on a motorcycle when a speeding BMW hit the two-wheeler on Sunday.At the Beri Wala Bagh Shamshan Ghat Cremation Ground in West Delhi, where the body was taken, Navnoor, Navjot’s only son, who turned 22 on Tuesday, could hardly hold himself together. Earlier in the morning, he received the last gift from his father at his home — pre-ordered by Navjot to mark his son’s birthday. By 2 pm, Navnoor was performing the final rites for his father.Navjot Singh was posted as the deputy secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Finance Ministry. Apart from family members, representatives of Japanese, South Korean and China embassies were also at the cremation ground in Hari Nagar, not too far from his home, to pay their last respects to him.Officers said that Navjot Singh’s body was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital ahead of final rites for postmortem.Gaganpreet Makkar, the main accused in the Delhi BMW crash, was arrested on Monday for ramming the car into the couple.No alcohol was found in her blood sample report, said police on Tuesday.Story continues below this adA source with the Delhi Police said that the husband of the accused, Parikshit Makkar (40), was called in for questioning. “He claimed that after the accident, he called his father-in-law and told him that Gaganpreet is on her way to Nulife.
