(Sony LIV screenshot)India had quite a few forgettable moments during Pakistan’s innings in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Fours match between the two sides in Dubai on Sunday, dropping as many as five catches. However, Pakistan had their own facepalm moment towards the end of their innings, by which time the momentum they had built up in the first 10 overs had fizzed out. It happened when Mohammad Nawaz took his own sweet time to stroll back to his crease and was run out by Suryakumar Yadav off the third ball of the 19th over by Jasprit Bumrah. The ball was hit by Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha straight to Varun Chakaravarthy at square leg. Despite Jasprit Bumrah holding his arm up to the fielder, asking him not to throw the ball, Varun went for a direct hit and missed it at the non-striker’s end. The ball was gathered by Suryakumar Yadav, who took a moment as it seemed the ball was about to become dead. But the Indian captain saw what no one else did: Nawaz was strolling back to his crease at a leisurely pace. So he unleashed a throw that flicked the bails and Nawaz’s reaction was too late.Pakistan coach Mike Hesson couldn’t even look at Nawaz as he walked past him into the dressing room. Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram, who is part of the commentary panel for the match was just as miffed on air. “I am speechless about the presence of mind as far as Nawaz is concerned,” Akram said. The over had been pretty eventful before Nawaz’s brain fade moment, although it came on a rare off day for Bumrah, compared to his usual lofty standards. A stunning yorker kept out by Nawaz, a six by Faheem Ashraf first ball, followed by yet another dropped catch on the night, this time Shubman Gill at deep midwicket. Bumrah, who had one of the more trying nights of his stellar career, just had a rueful smile at the end of it all.Stay updated with the latest sports news across Cricket, Football, Chess, and more.
