(File Photo)Overcoming rebellion within the party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s official panel won 10 seats in the Dudhdhara dairy polls in Bharuch on Saturday, claiming majority in the dairy’s board.The rival BJP faction, fielded by sitting Vagra MLA Arunsinh Rana, however, has bagged two seats, upsetting the party’s aim for a clean sweep.The elections to 14 out of 15 seats of Dudhdhara dairy were held on Friday with all the 296 voters casting their votes.On Saturday, the counting began at the dairy under police watch. Though initial results indicated a thriller, the panel of current chairman of the dairy BJP’s Ghanshyam Patel emerged victorious, giving the party a reason to celebrate.At the end of the counting, the tally stood at 10 seats to BJP, two to the rival BJP faction fielded by Rana and two to independent candidates backed by Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) leader Mahesh Vasava, who lost the election himself. Prakash Desai, a member of Rana’s panel, was elected unanimously earlier, taking its tally to 11.Vasava, who had fielded four candidates, including himself and former Congress MLA from Nandod P D Vasava, had already declared support to Ghanshyam Patel, who won from the Nandod West seat of the dairy, bagging just two more votes than Rana.Before the elections, Rana had raised charges of corruption and irregularities against party colleagues heading the dairy affairs.Story continues below this adRana said, “In most of the seats that we lost, the margin was just two or three votes. Despite the setback, we will continue to fight for the rights of the milk producers… Their candidates may have won, but cases of their misdealings are before the courts…”Patel, who has been Chairman of Dudhdhara for 17 years, said, “This is the victory of the BJP, which backed our panel even though people tried to vitiate the process… But the mandate stayed strong, and we must thank the BJP leaders for backing us despite the false allegations being made against us… Arunsinh Rana is an MLA and runs the affairs of the district cooperative bank, but (he must understand that) the dairy is a different ball game… The milk producers, voters and the people of the dairy have entrusted us with the task of taking it forward and we will do it with sincerity whether it is Vagra, Jambusar or Nandod.”One of the seats of the dairy witnessed a tie with contestants from Patel and Rana’s panel getting 13 votes each.
