‘Never seen anything like that’ – Super Bowl winning head coach takes brutal dig at Bill Belichick

Wait 5 sec.

It’s a sad state of affairs in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend seem to be the punchline of every joke in college football. Forget the hype surrounding the University of North Carolina’s football program for landing the seven-time Super Bowl-winning coach as its leader. That ship has sailed, and sunk.North Carolina is 2-2, with both wins coming against Charlotte and Richmond. In their match-ups against other Power Four programs, they’ve been outscored by a combined 82-23.TCU beat them 48-14 and UCF beat them 34-9 over the weekend. They look lifeless and hapless against real competition, and these days, the only headlines surrounding Belichick and the Tar Heels focus on how much — or how little — Jordon Hudson is involved with the program. Before their game against UCF, images of Belichick and Hudson on the field went viral, with many questioning what Hudson was doing there so close to kickoff. On Monday’s episode of FS1’s Wake Up Barstool, former Raiders and Super Bowl-winning Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden was asked by Dave Portnoy whether his wife ever joined him on the sideline to help with coaching.“Well, actually she called the game-winner against the Ravens on Monday Night Football a couple of years ago,” Gruden joked. “She came down on the field and helped me through a tough situation.“It was an all-out blitz, and she told me to go with 58 Surge. So thank God she saved the day that day. But I’ve never seen anything like that.”Gruden then pivoted, taking a jab at Belichick’s right-hand man, North Carolina GM Mike Lombardi.Hudson and Belichick have made a lot of headlines over the last few monthsGettyThe 24-year-old is seemingly very involved and invested in her boyfriend’s programGetty“You know, Mike Lombardi works for North Carolina,” Gruden said. “I’ve heard him criticize me several times. I’m sure he’ll produce a TikTok today explaining exactly what was going on there.”Gruden mocked the entire Belichick-Hudson-UNC situation while also taking a jab at Lombardi, with whom he seemingly doesn’t have a great relationship. As for Belichick and the Tar Heels, their schedule isn’t going to get any easier. They are off this week before welcoming Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers, traveling to the West Coast to face Cal, hosting Virginia, and finishing with a road trip to play Syracuse. If they don’t get it together, they could be staring at a 2-6 record by the time November rolls around. What was one of the biggest storylines heading into the college football season is now barely making a ripple—unless Hudson is somehow involved.NFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare? That’s not what North Carolina signed up for when they hired the 73-year-old coach. And it surely isn’t what Belichick had in mind when he took the job.The most successful coach in NFL history appears to have been cast aside from the professional ranks, forced to take a college job to help restore his image and reputation.Unfortunately for everyone involved, it’s only making matters worse.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our NFL Facebook page, subscribe to our talkSPORT End Zone YouTube channel for all the offseason news, interviews and more
