‘That list has one name on it’ – Rich Eisen highlights how Daniel Jones is doing what no one else has in the Super Bowl era

Wait 5 sec.

Indiana Jones is the talk of the NFL world through the first three weeks of the season.A revitalized Daniel Jones has the Indianapolis Colts at a perfect 3-0 while setting a laundry list of records with near-perfect performances to begin the year. Fresh off a 41-20 win over the Tennessee Titans, Jones has achieved something no quarterback in the Super Bowl era ever has.Rich Eisen astutely pointed it out on his show while heaping praise on the former sixth overall pick.“What he’s doing for the Indianapolis Colts is quite simply something we’ve never seen from the Colts at the quarterback position before,” Eisen said. “And I know what I’m saying right now because just to name a couple of quarterbacks that have worn the blue horseshoe on the side of the helmet, there is Peyton Manning, all you gotta do is just stroll up the front steps at Lucas Oil and you see the statue.“Johnny Unitas is another. Andrew Luck could be another one. Captain Comeback my guy Jim Harbaugh, just to name a few of note. There’s a list of Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Colts quarterbacks that have started a season 3-0 with zero giveaways. That list has one name on it. It’s Daniel Jones.“And now there’s a list of all sorts of quarterbacks of note in the Super Bowl era, but I’m now widening the scope of quarterbacks to play in this great game since the Super Bowl era began which is always 1970, the merger and all that sort of business.“So unfortunately, you got to take Bart Starr in the 60s out of the hat, but there’s still I think a large subset of quarterbacks.“There’s a list of quarterbacks in the Super Bowl era with three or more passing touchdowns and three or more rushing touchdowns and no giveaways in the first three games of the season, and that list has one name on it. It’s Daniel Jones.”Forget just franchise history — Jones is the only quarterback in the Super Bowl era to have three passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, zero turnovers, and a 3-0 record. With 103 points through three games, they boast the league’s No. 1 scoring offense — surpassing even the Peyton Manning-led Colts’ start. Manning never reached 103 points to begin a season. They have only punted once, making them the only team in the Super Bowl era to punt once in their first three games.Jones has saved his career in IndianapolisGettyThe Indianapolis QB has finally found a home after being cast aside in New YorkGettyColts head coach Shane Steichen has been able to unlock Jones to his full potential. Something that the 28-year-old quarterback was never quite fully able to do as the New York Giants franchise quarterback. After a disappointing 2024 season in New York that saw him benched for Tommy DeVito, Jones requested his release, landed with the Minnesota Vikings to learn under offensive guru Kevin O’Connell, and eventually signed with the Colts in free agency. It’s been a match made in heaven so far between Jones, Steichen and the Colts. His head coach spoke glowingly about his quarterback after their latest victory.“You’ve got a guy that’s the signal-caller back there that studies his tail off, looks at tape all day every day, grinding, looking at different things, knowing the checks, understanding what we’re trying to get done offensively, getting us in and out of the right plays,” Steichen said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.“That stuff pays huge dividends in this league, because there’s a lot going on. Obviously, this is one of the toughest positions in all of sports to play, and he’s doing it right now as good as it gets.”That’s pretty high praise for someone who looked like he was about to be out of the league a matter of months ago.NFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?Fast forward to the end of September, and now Jones is the talk of the entire NFL.
