I've been watching Samsung's Ballie robot for a while, wondering if Samsung will be able to maximize its potential with modern IoT features and ingenious designs. But I'm afraid none of that matters right now. At the beginning of this week, Ballie officially missed its launch window, and as autumn begins, the robot is sitting in a warehouse somewhere. After years of tinkering with Ballie since its original unveiling in 2020, and after one major redesign, Samsung confirmed it was getting ready to release its new robot companion this summer. The launch was supposed to be limited to Korea and the USA, but it was better than nothing. However, the reality of the seasons has hit hard today. The summer is officially over. Autumn begins today in the Northern Hemisphere, and there is no trace of Ballie. There was no trace at IFA 2025, either, when we began wondering if the robot would turn into vaporware. But today is the first day when Ballie has officially missed its summer launch window. So, what happened? According to at least one previous report, Ballie has been ready for the market for a few months. However, the same report stated that Samsung was never convinced that it should be released. In a way, I might regretfully agree with Samsung to an extent. I mean, I've always wondered where Ballie could fit in Samsung's smart home lineup. The company already has a roaming vacuum robot, and if Ballie were to succeed, I always thought it should sell for less than the Jet Bot AI vacuum.Furthermore, I also thought that Ballie's existence could be justified if it could synergize with the Jet Bot AI series. The two could make a fantastic, entertaining pair of robots if only Samsung could program them to acknowledge each other's presence and interact with one another. But knowing Samsung, I think it's more likely that the company developed each of these robots in a vacuum, no pun intended. There probably is no clever interaction between the two roaming robots. The robot revolution that never happenedUnfortunately, we don't have the answers regarding Ballie's future. All we know is that the robot officially missed its summer launch window today. Will Ballie ever go on sale? It's hard to tell. I, for one, believe that in order for Ballie to succeed, it must acknowledge other Samsung smart home devices and exhibit a clever, fun personality. It must be the launchpad for a very fun and smart AI assistant.Maybe Ballie just wasn't ready for that yet, and maybe it never will be. Or maybe Samsung will surprise us with a launch this year or next. Time will tell, but right now, I'm starting to think that if Ballie ever goes on sale, it may have to go through another complete redesign first. For now, if you want to own a clever roaming robot, Samsung unveiled the new Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra at IFA 2025. It is the first Samsung robot vacuum that can climb over relatively thick obstacles, and that might make it infinitely more practical than Ballie.
