Crossword competition held for newspaper readers as part of Dasara celebrations in Shivamogga

A crossword-solving competition was held in Shivamogga on Sunday, as part of Dasara celebrations. As many as 50 people took part in the competition and solved Kannada crosswords.The programme was jointly organised by Shivamogga City Corporation and Shivamogga district unit of Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) under the title – Patrika Dasara. The initiative was to cultivate and encourage the habit of reading newspapers.A.T. Bhagya, Information Assistant of Department of Information and Public Relations, inaugurated the competition. Addressing the gathering, she said the exercise of solving crosswords help readers expand vocabulary, improve memory and enhance problem-solving skills. “Once we resolve crossword successfully, we feel happy. It is one of the best hobbies that youngsters can pick up, instead of using cellphones,” she said.Journalist R.S. Halaswamy conducted the competition.
