Universal Studios Florida has made an abrupt update to DreamWorks Land.Shrek first arrived at the Orlando theme park in 2003 with Shrek 4-D, a 3D film experience that continued the story from the original movie. Though technology began to feel dated over time, its humor and connection to the blockbuster franchise kept it popular with families and longtime fans.In 2022, Shrek 4-D closed to make way for Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast (which wasn’t exactly warmly received by fans, but has still managed to inspire a duplicate attraction at Universal Studios Japan). However, Universal added more Shrek to the park with the opening of DreamWorks Land in the summer of 2024.Credit: UniversalWhile this area doesn’t feature a Shrek ride (we can dream), it does include Shrek’s Swamp Meet, where guests can meet Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey outside the ogre’s cottage. It also offered Shrek’s Swamp for Little Ogres, a play area for younger guests.That playground, however, has now been removed without warning.Universal Removes Yet Another ‘Shrek’ Attraction From Theme ParkConstruction walls first went up around the splash pad in late July. While these walls initially only covered half of the splash pad, more walls were later added to block the whole area. The entire splash pad and its surrounding decor have now been ripped out.Credit: UniversalThe water guns that were previously available to spray guests on the splash pad have also been deactivated.Universal hasn’t removed the splash pad from its website, suggesting that this may only be a temporary measure. However, it remains to be seen why the entire splash pad needed to be removed just one year after its debut.Demolition is currently underway at Universal Studios Florida as crews begin dismantling Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which permanently closed last month. Universal has not announced what will replace the coaster, though speculation points to a possible Ghostbusters-themed attraction.Credit: UniversalElsewhere at Universal Orlando Resort, tragedy struck last week when a man died after riding Epic Universe’s signature roller coaster, Stardust Racers. Authorities confirmed the cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries.
