His body was brought to the cremation ground from the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, accompanied by a final procession attended by thousands of mourners. Zubeen was cremated with full state honours.Zubeen’s pyre was lit by his sister Palmee Borthakur as Assam Police accorded him a gun salute. Thousands who had gathered to pay the singer tribute sang “Mayabini”, one of his most iconic songs.Among those who paid tribute to the singer were Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, and Union Minister and former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal. On Tuesday morning, Zubeen’s body underwent a second post-mortem examination at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), after which the mortal remains were brought back to the sports complex. According to news agency PTI, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the complex before the singer’s body was taken to the hospital for the autopsy.The procedure was overseen by doctors from AIIMS-Guwahati. This follows the initial autopsy conducted by Singaporean authorities prior to the repatriation of  Zubeen’s body. The decision to carry out the second autopsy was made after discussions with his wife, Garima Saikia Garg.Earlier, several notable figures, including Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, singer Papon, and a representative from the King of Bhutan, paid their respects to Zubeen at the Guwahati stadium on Monday. The atmosphere was heavy with emotion as fans from across Assam gathered to bid farewell. Zubeen’s family was present, along with his four beloved dogs, who were brought by his wife, Garima, and close family friends to say their final goodbye, as reported by PTI.Fans offered flowers and ‘gamosas’ at the venue, with many singing some of Zubeen’s popular songs outside despite the intense heat. Medical teams were stationed nearby to assist anyone in need.In honour of the singer’s legacy, all educational institutions in Assam remained closed today, with government offices in Kamrup (Metropolitan) district also shutting down.On Sunday, fans blocked the national highway for several hours, demanding that Zubeen’s remains be brought to Jorhat, the city where he spent his formative years.
