Several neighbourhoods—including Lake Market, Rashbehari, Thanthania, Patuli, Santoshpur Avenue, Park Circus, Nagerbazar, and Bosepukur Talbagan—reported waterlogging, with levels rising up to waist height in some places. At least two people lost their lives in rain-related incidents. Pandals in Bosepukur Talbagan were also submerged after nearly five hours of rainfall.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the rainfall to a low-pressure system over the northeast Bay of Bengal. It has issued a yellow alert across multiple districts, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, Murshidabad, and Nadia. Warnings of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds remain in place until September 26.In Assam, schools and colleges across the state also remained closed on September 23, 2025, as a mark of respect for singer Zubeen Garg, whose funeral was held on the outskirts of Guwahati. The order applied to both government and private institutions, while government offices in Kamrup district also observed a holiday.Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the funeral procession would be simple and dignified, with only a limited number of vehicles accompanying the ambulance carrying Garg’s mortal remains.
