Traffic master planThe traffic police have released a plan for the routes that will be accessed by presidential candidates during nominations.According to the plan developed by directorate of traffic headed by AIGP Lawrence Nuwabiine, no candidate will pass through the middle of the city on roads such as Kampala road.SP Michael Kananura, the traffic police spokesperson explained that the main routes shall be: From Kampala city center, Yusuf Lule Road, Mulago traffic lights, City mortuary traffic lights, Kubiri Traffic Lights, Bwaise Flyover, Northern bypass, Busega roundabout, Kajjansi flyover, Old Entebbe Road, Lweza Fuelex, Kigo road Junction to the venue.“These routes have been selected to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhanced security during the nomination of candidates for the Presidential Elections 2026, on September 23 and 24, 2025,” SP Kananura said.Police said the parking will be at the main venue for only candidates and St Joseph’s Church of Uganda Lweza for other invited guests. The following Traffic Diversions will only be effected at these points if need arises.At Kisubi, traffic will be diverted to Nakawuka Road to access Kampala city. This diversion will decongest Entebbe Highway. Kajjansi flyover traffic will be diverted to Munyonyo spur to city center. There will be a diversion at Lweza Fuelex Kigo junction for motorists from Kampala to proceed to Kajjansi flyover.There will be a diversion at Kigo rehabilitation center junction for candidates after nominations to Kigo road. There will also be a diversion at Kigo furniture and motorists entering Kigo road will be diverted to proceed on Munyonyo Spur/Kajjansi express. Residents affected by the diversions will be permitted to enter and exit their residences using stickers provided by the security team.Traffic police will handle traffic flow at other road junctions, access Roads and regulate it according to the movement of candidates. -Traffic Police will hold all Road users at 50 meters from these junctions- All diversions will start at 5am on the September 23rd and 24th until the end of the exercise.Police said no motorcycle rider will be allowed beyond all cut off points, warning that whosoever contravenes the stipulated guidelines will be dealt with in accordance with the traffic laws and regulations.“We urge the public and participants to follow all instruction from traffic and security officers on duty. Ensure your vehicle sticker is clearly displayed for easy identification by the security agencies. Exercise patience and discipline to ensure a successful and peaceful event,” SP Kananura said.Police said presidential aspirants, their supporters and residents in the affected areas should plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays or inconveniences.
