Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, Chairperson, Electoral Commission,The Electoral Commission has rescheduled the nomination of candidates for Parliamentary Elections, including Special Interest Groups (Youths, Persons with Disabilities, Workers, and Older Persons), from 15th – 16th October 2025 to 22nd – 23rd October 2025.In a statement dated September 18, 2025, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, Chairperson, Electoral Commission, says the nominations will take place at the office of the respective District/City Returning Officer.“This adjustment is necessitated by Uganda’s role as host of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Mid-term Review Conference, an international engagement that will bring together Uganda government officials, legislators, and representatives from NAM member states and international agencies. This Conference is scheduled to take place from 15th and 16th October 2025, and key government institutions will be directly involved in planning, security, and diplomatic coordination.In light of this, and to facilitate participation, administrative efficiency, and national focus during the international event, the Commission has adjusted the nomination period to the above new dates,” Byabakama says.The Commission has further adjusted the period for conduct of candidates’ campaigns for Presidential Elections.Nomination of Candidates for Presidential Elections in line with Section 9 (1) of the Presidential Elections Act will take place from 23rd – 24th September 2025, while harmonisation of candidates’ campaign programmes for Presidential Elections will take place from 25th – 27th September 2025.According to EC, conduct of candidates’ campaigns (Presidential) in line with Section 22(1) of the Presidential Elections Act will take place from 29th September – 12th January 2026, while nomination of Candidates for Parliamentary Elections in line with Section 9 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap 177 will take place from 22nd – 23rd October 2025.Nomination of Candidates for SIGs Representatives to Parliament in line with Section 9 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap 177 will take place from 22nd – 23rd October 2025.Byabakama says conduct of candidates’ campaigns (Parliamentary) in line with Section 21 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap 177 will take place from 10th Nov. 2025 – 12th January 2026.On the other hand, conduct of candidates’ campaigns (Local Governments, including SIGs) will take place from 10th Nov. 2025 – 12th January 2026.“Polling Period for Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government Councils (City/District; Municipality/City Division; and Sub County, Town, Municipal Division), including SIGs Representatives, in line with Article 61(2) of the Constitution will take place from 12th January – 9th February 2026,” EC says.The Commission says a soft copy of the detailed electoral Roadmap is available on the Commission website: www.ec.or.ug.The post EC Makes Changes On Nomination Dates Of Candidates For Parliamentary Elections, Commencement Of Campaigns For Presidential Elections appeared first on Business Focus.
