Patrick Mahomes can do no wrong in the eyes of Cris Collinsworth. On Sunday Night Football, Mahomes wasn’t exactly at his best, making a handful of boneheaded plays, including throwing two backward passes.View Tweet: https://twitter.com/NFLPlus?ref_src=twsrc%5EtfwSeveral plays left fans shaking their heads, and one nearly backfired. In the second quarter, Mahomes tossed a pass behind running back Isiah Pacheco that the Giants nearly took the other way.The pass got away from Pacheco and was bouncing into the arms of Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke, who looked like he was about to scoop it and strut into the end zone.Mahomes hustled over, jarred the ball from Okereke and recovered it himself. That in and of itself was a nice recovery by Mahomes to ensure he got the ball back and even prevented a touchdown in the process. However, Collinsworth may have taken it a bit too far on the broadcast.“I can’t tell you how good of a play that is,” Collinsworth said. “So many quarterbacks would have done nothing here, right?“He knew better than anybody that this was a backwards pass. And all of a sudden that thing is understood immediately and he stole it.“That’s a turnover created by Patrick Mahomes. Not only did he save the touchdown, but he also got the ball back.”“Cris Collinsworth still finding a way to praise Mahomes after watching a horrifying backward pass resulting in a loss of 15 is hysterical. It HAS to be a bit,” one fan posted on X.“Fumbling the ball and recovering it so Collinsworth can say how amazing you are>>>>” another fan commented.“Cris Collinsworth somehow found a way to glaze Mahomes after he threw the ball backwards to nobody,” one more added.Mahomes and the Chiefs have had a slow start to the seasonGettyMahomes hasn’t looked like his usual self to begin the yearGettyIt was a smart play by Mahomes to recover the ball, yes, but he was the one who inexplicably threw it backward in the first place. The fans couldn’t believe Collinsworth’s reaction to the play.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our NFL Facebook page, subscribe to our talkSPORT End Zone YouTube channel for all the offseason news, interviews and more
