Dimitar Berbatov picked up a detail during Tottenham’s warm-up routine ahead of their Champions League match against Villarreal, which perhaps sheds light on why the Lilywhites have been so defensively resolute this season.Thomas Frank admitted that Tottenham were not at their best offensively against Villarreal, but he revealed that he was delighted to see his side keep another clean sheet and emerge with all three points. It is Spurs’ fourth clean sheet in their last five matches, and even more impressively, they have conceded just one goal in the Premier League so far. That is a far cry from last season, when they conceded a whopping 65 goals in their 38 Premier League matches under Ange Postecoglou.Credit: Tony Mureithi / @tonym_visuals / @tonym_visualssportsDimitar Berbatov on the camaraderie between Tottenham defendersWhile Frank has rotated his midfield and forward players so far this season, he has stuck with the same back four.Berbatov noticed during the warm-ups ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Villarreal that Tottenham’s defensive line shared a great camaraderie and were pushing each other on.The former Tottenham striker told Prime Video (16/09/25) following the Lilywhites’ 1-0 win: “Especially in a game like this, it’s always good when you keep a clean sheet for the goalkeeper and the defence.“As I said at the beginning, the four people at the back, when I saw them in the warm-up, they were always hugging and complimenting each other. There is a unit there, there is good camaraderie between the players, and they show it on the pitch as well.“Here and there during the game, I saw a bit of the old Spurs when they lack a bit of concentration. The example was for the penalty incident, where they always need to be on their toes because an intelligent team can take advantage and score. But overall, so far I think the whole unit and defence is really great!”Tottenham are yet to click as an attacking forceAs soon as he arrived through the door at N17 in the summer, Frank said that he wanted Tottenham to be more balanced than they were last season, stressing the need for the side to be effective in all phases of play. There is no doubt that he has implemented an effective defensive structure, which was missing for Spurs over the last two seasons. However, the Dane has still not got the balance right as Tottenham are having the opposite problem to last season, struggling to create chances. The 51-year-old will believe that Spurs will come together as an attacking force in the weeks and months to come, but he has certainly laid a strong foundation to build from.READ MORE: Thomas Frank explains why Xavi Simons was not effective in second-half for TottenhamThe post Dimitar Berbatov spotted something interesting during Tottenham warm-up vs Villarreal appeared first on Spurs Web.
