Watch: ‘Imagine Someone Close To Power Buying A Flat For €100,000’ – Alex Borg On Fortina Land Deal

Wait 5 sec.

PN leader Alex Borg compared the Fortina land deal to someone close to power purchasing an apartment for around €100,000.“Imagine a young couple who dreams of buying their own home,” he said.“A decent apartment costs €300,000 these days, but imagine the seller allows that couple to buy it for €100,000 because they’re part of the inner circle.”“That’s exactly what happened here. Land valued at €21 million was sold for only €8 million, and that €8 million hasn’t even all been paid yet.” View this post on InstagramA post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)Borg said that while Prime Minister Robert Abela is “attacking him for telling the truth”, his intention is solely to reclaim what belongs to the public by right and distribute it among the less fortunate.“With €16 million, around 55 families could have purchased their own home, but all Robert Abela could say was that the PN didn’t change its tune,” he said.“Let’s ensure that all the investigations and actions requested by the NAO take place. The PN will safeguard the national interest – our land shouldn’t be sold for cheap and money earned through concessions like this should be distributed among the public to ensure our families and youths have a chance to start their dreams.”The NAO found that Fortina significantly underpaid for public land in Sliema back in 2019, revealing that former Lands Authority chairman Lino Farrugia Sacco concealed an external report valuing the site at €21 million – more than double the €8 million Fortina paid for it.It also found that former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri was “part of a wider effort” to conceal this report, although Schembri has denied this and said the Lands Authority was fully responsible for the valuation.Farrugia Sacco, a former judge, died in 2021.•
