SC order on Waqf deserves second look, remove more objectionable parts to safeguard freedom of religion: Kashmir parties

Political and religious groups in Kashmir have said the Supreme Court’s interim order on the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, fails to address core constitutional and religious concerns. The Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said partial relief was welcome but inadequate, warning that provisions such as the abolition of “Waqf by user,” mandatory deeds, and transfer of survey powers threaten centuries-old mosques, shrines, and graveyards.
