Robert Redford, Getty ImagesLegendary actor Robert Redford passed away early Tuesday morning at his home in Utah at the age of 89.The two-time Oscar winner began his Hollywood career as an actor and later gained recognition as a director.Over his more than 60 years in Hollywood, Redford received two Oscars, five Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, Kennedy Center Honors and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 1981, Redford founded the Sundance Institute to foster “new voices in American storytelling” and champion independent stories for the screen.Redford’s films include “Butch Cassidy and the Sundace Kid” (1969), “The Sting” (1973), “The Way We Were” (1973) and “All the President’s Men” (1976).Cindi Berger, chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, confirmed the news to Variety.“Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved,” Berger said in a statement. “He will be missed greatly. But climbing up, that struggle, that to me is where the fun is.
