The State government is committed to providing title deeds to all landless families, Revenue Minister K. Rajan told the Assembly in reply to a calling attention motion moved by Saneesh Kumar Joseph on Tuesday. He said that over the last four years, 2,23,945 land titles have been distributed. The government was able to distribute so many title deeds due to the steps it has taken to clear technical hurdles related to the land. One of the main issues was in awarding title deeds to puramboke land in rocky terrain, beaches and near roads as well as land purchased by the government in the name of local self-government institutions under various projects. The first step was to identify such land title issues. For this purpose, the Pattaya Mission was launched. Title deed assemblies were held on a constituency basis under the chairpersonship of the MLAs with the participation of all the people’s representatives to identify such lands in each area.An officer not below the rank of tahsildar was appointed as the nodal officer of the title mission in every constituency. On this basis, steps were taken to identify families without title and issue them with land titles based on the ownership of the land they live in. Cases in which there was delay in resolving the issues were included in a dashboard. Such cases are being resolved through continuous hearings and adalats. A committee headed by the Chief Secretary and comprising the secretaries of various departments is also working as part of the mission to resolve the issues.Published - September 16, 2025 07:00 pm IST
