Rayachoti records 145 mm rain in 24 hours

Heavy rain lashed Annamayya district on Friday (September 19) night, with the district headquarters Rayachoti, receiving a record 145.4 mm in 24 hours. According to officials, the combined rainfall across Rayachoti, Rajampet, and Madanapalle revenue divisions crossed 520 mm, which paralysed normal life in several areas.In Rayachoti division, the rainfall was recorded as Chinnamandem (63.0 mm), Sambepalli (52.8 mm), and Ramapuram (42.6 mm). Penagalur in the Rajampet division registered 74.6 mm, and Peddamandam in the Madanapalle division witnessed 98.8 mm of rainfall.District authorities issued an alert, urging the public to avoid crossing streams, culverts, and low-lying areas and moving near the water bodies. Police personnel were posted at the ghat roads towards the Horsely Hills and Guvvala Cheruvu ghat towards Kadapa, to caution motorists to avoid the slippery terrain.Published - September 20, 2025 04:24 pm IST
