UFC veteran Melvin Guillard hung up his gloves on Saturday night after snapping an 11-year losing streak that had plagued the back end of his career. The 42-year-old knocked out Terry Wiggins (3-1) in 24 seconds at a Ragin FC event in Lake Charles, Louisiana. [I] will always go out on top of the world.“For all my haters, I appreciate your hateful ways, all love… Ya out!!!”What did Melvin Guillard achieve during his career?Guillard made a name for himself as one of the most colourful characters on Season 2 of The Ultimate Fighter. He lost his first welterweight elimination bout to Josh Burkman, but earned a contract with the UFC by overcoming Marcus Davis at the finale event.Between 2008 and 2011, ‘The Young Assassin’ won eight of nine bouts to bring himself within touching distance of a title shot.View Tweet: https://twitter.com/hashtag/RFC3?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5EtfwGettyHe shared the cage with the likes of Diaz, Adesanya and Cerrone in multiple promotions[/caption]However, a downturn in form in his final eight fights under the UFC banner led to him being released from MMA’s premier promotion in 2014 following a defeat to Michael Johnson.Guillard’s 12-9-1 NC run with the UFC was characterised by high-octane battles, big knockouts and plenty of controversy outside of the Octagon.Over the years, he has faced legal problems, substance abuse and acrimonious fallouts with several members of the MMA fraternity. His issues outside of competition began to seep into his combat sports career as he went 2-12-1 NC in MMA post-UFC.Guillard did manage to score a couple of victories in bare-knuckle boxing in his later years under the BKB promotional banner. However, he would lose four straight with BKFC thereafter.GettyHis victory on Saturday finally draws an 11-year losing streak to a close[/caption]Regardless of his decline, Guillard still boasts notable wins over Jeremy Stephens, Mac Danzig, Gleison Tibau, and Dennis Siver.Meanwhile, he also shared the cage with Israel Adesanya, Donald Cerrone, and Nate Diaz.
