Hugo Ekitike happy to give Arne Slot “coach’s problem” with Alexander Isak

Hugo Ekitike scored what proved to be the winner in the Merseyside derby, which he believes will be a “coach’s problem” for Arne Slot over using Alexander Isak.A lot has been made of Liverpool investing over £200 million in two strikers despite the club’s obvious need for depth and competition as they look to compete across four fronts.Ekitike underlined what he can offer with what proved the match-winner against Everton before Isak took over for the final 23 minutes as he continues to get up to speed. The two will continue to be pitted against one another outside the club’s four walls, but Ekitike is content to see it as the “coach’s problem” while he embraces the competition.“He’s a very, very good player,” Ekitike said of Isak to TNT Sports. “I always watched him before I came here. So for me, him being here is really good.• READ: Jack Grealish left fuming with referee for Liverpool ‘bias’ – “You can’t do that”“I can learn and improve myself. It’s competition, but I know we’re going to play together, we’re going to make a difference. I hope one day we’re going to share the pitch.“It’s good. It’s the coach’s problem, I just do my job. It’s good.”It is a response that is in keeping with the Liverpool squad’s mentality after a statement summer, with competition embraced and seen as a necessity if they are to keep all four plates spinning. As for Slot, he does not see the battle of Ekitike, who has three goals in five league starts, and Isak as a “headache” as he knows the number of games Liverpool will play calls for more than one option.“No there’s no headache at all,” Slot told TNT Sports. “I even think these two players are very happy that we have them both. “Maybe for the long-term they would think ‘what does this mean for my playing time’, but both of them know that it’s very hard for them to play three times [a week] 90 [minutes].“Hugo is 22, comes from a different league to a new intensity.“Playing three games in seven days, you can see the ones who are used to that: Ryan, Dominik, Virgil, Ibou, Mo. They are used to that, but the new ones, for them it’s harder.“So I would say we only have two, some other teams we’re in competition in have more than one striker as well.“That’s what I just meant, that Alex is far from ready to play 90 let alone two or three times a week. But we are trying to bring him there, as long as he stays fit, because that is the difficult balance we have to find.“It’s nice to have two. You can ask me this question about every position, you can go to every manager in the league and ask him about having two strikers, two No. 7s, two No. 11s.“That’s why everybody loves this league, because there are so many great players. And yes, we have two very good No. 9s as well, like many other teams in this league.”
