Some dwarf species do ok together, but Syrians are definitely solitary and will end up killing each other if you house them together. Extremely territorial. It sucks how many people treat them like a toy and buy them for their kids. They're tough animals to take care of and they require a lot of work and resources to keep happy. Most people keep them in way too small if cages and do not give them enough bedding to burrow in. They really should be viewed as exotic pets because they have only been in captivity for less than 100 years, all of their instincts are fully intact, and It's very difficult to satisfy them all indoors. Definitely out of reach for a child.
