After gunfight in middle of the road in Delhi, three Gogi gang members arrested

After purposely getting one of their patrol vehicles to collide head on with a Swift car carrying suspected members of the Jitender Gogi gang, the police managed to arrest three of the men early Saturday following a gunfight in the middle of the road in Rohini.The confrontation allegedly took place while the men were plotting to fire at the house of a Gau Raksha Dal member.DCP (Rohini) Rajeev Ranjan identified the three men as Ashroo alias Lallu (23), Irfan (21) and Nitesh (30).While Ashroo and Irfan sustained gunshot injuries to their legs, Nitesh was overpowered, he added. “The three, associated with the Jitender Gogi gang, were travelling in a white Swift car along with two associates, who managed to escape… The accused have previous criminal records… Two sophisticated firearms and one countrymade pistol were recovered from them,” the DCP said.The three, who are recuperating in a hospital, will be produced before the court once they are discharged, police said.An officer said that on Saturday, a team from Budh Vihar police station was on patrol duty after receiving a tip-off regarding the possibility of miscreants opening fire at the residence of a man associated with the Gau Rakshak Dal. The man had allegedly earlier called for a mahasabha of a particular community in response to an incident in which three persons were allegedly assaulted by Ashroo and his associates.“The attack was reportedly linked to the mahasabha called by the community on September 20, following the alleged assault of three persons — Gourav Solanki, Chahat, and Yogesh — by Ashroo and his associates a few days earlier,” the DCP said.Story continues below this ad“Ashroo had also circulated a video of the assault on Instagram to showcase his association with and influence in the Gogi gang,” he added.Police said they received information that Ashroo and his associates would be arriving in a Swift car to attack the residence of the man who had called the mahasabha at Sector 1, Rohini.Around 2.40 am, near Bankey Bihari Mandir in Sector 24, a police team signalled a car that matched the description to stop. As the patrol vehicle kept on advancing, both vehicles came face-to-face and collided head-on. “The occupants of the Swift then got out of the vehicle and opened fire at the police team. The police personnel retaliated,” an officer said.During the operation, police fired six rounds, while the accused fired about seven, the officer added. Amid this, two persons managed to escape by scaling the wall near Ganda Nala in Rithala, said police.Story continues below this adAshroo, who also runs his own ‘Nassroo gang’ — named after his jailed brother — is involved in five cases, including two of attempted murder and two robberies, said police. While Irfan is facing two attempted murder cases, Nitesh has a history of involvement in cheating cases, officers said.
