(Express Photo by Pavan Khengre)Degrees given out by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will now be printed on paper from the Indian Security Press in Nashik, ensuring higher security features. The Indian Security Press is an organisation under the Security Printing & Minting Corporation of India and is the only company that prints Passports and other travel documents for the Government.According to information given by professor Jyoti Bhakare, officiating registrar at SPPU, the papers, which have security features, will be sent from Nashik to SPPU. Details like names and marks of students will be printed on the paper at the university press.“SPPU will be getting pre-printed papers from the Indian Security Press in Nashik. The content will be printed on this paper by the university press. The university will start using these papers from the upcoming convocation,” said Bhakare.“The reason is that ISP produces the most secure paper in India. It has maximum security features, making it hard to duplicate. Moreover, since it is a government agency, no private party is involved, which reduces the chances of any leakage. Central universities, IITs, and CBSE already get their pre-printed papers from ISP. Once we receive the paper, we will add the name, marks, etc. The process will be more secure, reducing the chances of tampering,” she added.Sagar Vaidya, management council member at SPPU said, “Many had expressed their desire that the certificates of recognised universities like Savitribai Phule Pune University should also be printed here at the Indian Security Press. The tender given to a private press outside had only 6 security standards. The rates were also several times higher. Therefore, there were allegations and discussions about corruption in the purchase of certificate papers against Pune University.”He further claimed, “As a solution to this, I had demanded in the Management Council two years ago that printing should be done in the government Indian Security Press of Nashik. The decision is historic for the university and will save crores of rupees for the university. The certificates will also be very secure.” Click here to join Express Pune WhatsApp channel and get a curated list of our stories© IE Online Media Services Pvt LtdTags:pune
