Allegations, ECI’s responseThe swift response by the Election Commission of India (ECI) terming the accusations by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on alleged vote theft as baseless, is untenable and unacceptable (Front page, September 19). The poll body’s responsibility does not cease with strong rebuttals. It should clear the air to uphold its image and reputation. A comprehensive probe into the serious allegations, which have a direct correlation with the functioning of democracy and the constitutional framework, is necessary. This will establish whether the allegations have any evidentiary value or not. Further, it is imperative to put in place a vibrant mechanism with multiple layers of transparency and fairness at the Election Commission to guard against any wrongdoings or malpractices. On no account should voters be taken for a ride.V. Johan Dhanakumar,ChennaiPublished - September 20, 2025 12:24 am IST
