(AP Photo)World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz has become something of a golf enthusiast recently, even hosting compatriot and former World No. 2 Sergio Garcia in his players’ box for his triumph at the US Open this month. The Spaniard has linked up with tennis greats of the past on the course too, including Roger Federer in San Francisco at the ongoing Laver Cup and Andy Murray back at his home in Scotland.Murray has not been as complimentary of his golf game as he is of the Spaniard’s tennis. In a recent interview, the former three-time Major winner said that Alcaraz’s skills with a tennis racket remind him of the footwork and attitude of his favourite footballer, Brazil legend Ronaldinho.“He’s a very average golfer, unfortunately for him, but his tennis reminds me of my favourite footballer growing up and I got to see live a few times, which was Ronaldinho,” he told The Times.Alcaraz has built up a formidable resume at the age of 22, winning six Grand Slam titles – two each at the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. The Spaniard’s high profile has made him one of the most famous athletes in the world across sport, and Murray believes that what has been central to his success is his charisma and the entertainment factor that he gives crowds, just like the former Barcelona and AC Milan winger.“They (Alcaraz and Ronaldinho) have got all of this skill and ability, they obviously want to win, but they play with a smile on their face. If the moment comes to do something entertaining they will, and I think that’s what makes them so absorbing because you never know what is going to happen next, so I particularly enjoy watching him,” Murray added.Alcaraz, the newly-crowned World No. 1 after usurping the top spot of the rankings from Jannik Sinner after defeating him in the US Open final, is currently representing Team Europe in the Laver Cup. Following that, the Spaniard will play in the ATP 500 event in Tokyo, making his debut in the Japanese capital, before returning for the Masters 1000 event on the indoor hard courts of Shanghai.© The Indian Express Pvt Ltd
