I like to think with an OPEN MIND on everything I see and do. I look at both sides of the situation and reading your post without judging you on your situation. I volunteered for 35 years for the Jerry Lewis Telethon, 6 years for the Library for the Blind & Physically Challenged, 2 Years American Red Cross Disaster Relief and countless other non-profits. As a Volunteer I got to learn many situations, Many people are thankful for you taking time out of your busy day not to mention the cost of your gas, food, etc to assist them in their time of need. And then there are a few in the bunch who like to take advantage of the system. When I worked at American Red Cross (ARC) we would offer 3 to 30 day Free motel stay, Free clothing $208 per adult, 3 Free Meals per day at a restaurant of their choosing and other Free services to service a family from a house fire or other natural disaster. ARC who receives donations by phone, mail or thru special events would pay for these services, So the victim doesn't have to pay anything back. The paper work we had to make 6 copies for. which included going to: The victim, ARC regional, ARC Corporate, the Merchant, and other agencies. To get to the point out of 100 victims of a natural disaster you would 2-3 bad apples who would change the paperwork to receive additional FREE services without anyone knowing about it until we verify it later when it comes to paying the merchant for their services. Then an investigation follows them. . In regards to the CB. I received a Free Lasagna from "Lasagna Love" yesterday. I never used their service before. I am a Disabled, Single Male, 55, Michigan. My health has gone down hill. The food came to me during a time I had almost no food in my refrigerator and to me the volunteered smiled, waved out the window when the volunteer couple arrived at my apt building. Me being on a Mobility Scooter on oxygen I met them in the lobby, They were very kind to bring my food to me up to my apartment since I could not lift anything. I told them I was very grateful and thankful to them for taking time out of their busy day to cook me a nice Lasagna Meal as my EBT card was almost maxed out due to the store across the street charges high prices to begin with and I usually buy my food and receive free delivery thru instacart but since my computer had a virus in it, The computer wouldn't accept my EBT info. So I was forced to buy food in town at a store who charges high prices. The volunteer brought the food into my apartment, placed the food on the kitchen counter and he was very kind and told me I had a tray of hot lasagna, 4 pieces of bread and dessert which was apple fritters. I thanked him and he left. I was expecting only the Lasagna they went above and beyond by also offering the bread and apple fritters as a bonus. My father received "Meals on Wheels" for both my mother and him when her health was going downhill. Rest in peace mom and dad. In regards to me as I done both volunteering for many years to receiving on the other end Free Lasagna from a non-profit. I am one of the good people who appreciates people who go out of their way to offer their time and services in a time I need it most. Sorry you got stuck with a person who took advantage of you. Unfortunately it happens from time to time. In regards to the family of 20 you can always ask your Supervisor to exchange that person with another worker because your on a limited income yourself and cannot afford the money to service that person. Just keep in mind that most persons in need do appreciate volunteers and their agencies for what they do. As we're all supposed to "Love One Another" like the bible says. Sometimes they might not show it, But from their hearts
