Civic officials said that the work order on the second bridge of the reconstruction project is set to be issued soon.Within the ambit of its Mithi River widening project, the BMC has taken up the cudgels to reconstruct the bridge between Bandra to Dharavi. The project is being undertaken in two phases in a bid to minimize the flow of river water.On Wednesday, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar along with senior BMC officials conducted a site inspection of the ongoing bridge works at Bandra.According to officials, nearly 90 per cent of the first phase works have been executed so far with the entire bridge slated to be completed by November 30.In what will provide direct access to the flyover leading up to the Mahim Causeway, two lanes of the southern arm on the existing bridge will be opened to traffic after completion of the first phase.With the first phase nearing completion, the BMC said that the work order on the second phase will be issued in the coming days with the entire bridge projected to be constructed in a period of 18 months.While reviewing works on Wednesday, Bangar directed officials to ensure that a strict timeline should be derived before the launch of ground works and NOCs from the traffic department must be procured in advance. “Special care must be taken to ensure that the time period does not increase after the start of work and no inconvenience is caused to citizens,” Bangar told officials.Story continues below this adMeanwhile, officials also reviewed ongoing works of the bridge over the nullah near Annie Besant Marg which is aimed at reducing congestion in Worli, Mahalaxmi and Lower Parel by creating a new link. While 30 percent of the project has been executed so far, Bangar said that the project is expected to be completed by December 2026.
