Samsung is rumored to be working on two smart glasses, one without a display and the other with a heads-up display. While the model with a heads-up AR display is expected to launch in 2027, the display-less smart glasses will reportedly launch in late 2026, and they need to one-up Meta's Gen 2 smart glasses to succeed.Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is currently the world's number one smart glasses brand right now. After its success with its first Meta Glasses, which were launched in 2023, the company has come up with second-generation glasses that bring improved camera quality and longer battery life. At £499, they also cost a bit more than the first-generation model. These Gen 2 glasses from the social media giant feature a 12MP ultrawide camera that can record 3K videos at 30fps, but the recorded videos still have portrait orientation and the time limit is 3 minutes. Videos can also be recorded at 1440p resolution at 30fps and 1200p resolution at 60fps. Meta says they will be able to capture hyperlapse and slow-motion videos later this year.Meta's new smart glasses also feature Conversation Focus, which amplifies people's voices during calls. As usual, you can talk to Gemini AI for getting answers to your questions or to brainstorm ideas, listen to music through onboard speakers, take video and voice calls, reply to messages, translate languages, and more. These glasses are powered by the Snapdragon AR series processor and feature 32GB storage, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. They are compatible with both Android and iPhones. They charge using a charging case that provides up to 48 hours of battery life and also charges faster (up to 50% in 20 minutes). You can choose from three frame designs—Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner—and in various colors. Meta's new AI glasses are also available through an Oakley partnership with PRIZM lenses. They have a sports-oriented design and feature an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, a 122-degree wide-angle lens, louder speakers, Garmin integration, and up to 9 hours of mixed usage battery life. Their charging case offers up to 36 hours of battery life with mixed usage. They have the same internals as the Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (Gen 2) and will be available in October 2025. Samsung's first smart glasses reportedly feature an onboard camera, microphones, and loudspeakers. They likely use Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon AR1+ Gen 1 chip and Samsung's own operating system or Google's Android XR platform. The company's glasses will have an advantage over Meta's AI glasses, as they can have a much deeper integration with Galaxy phones. This will allow them to have more advanced capabilities than Meta's smart glasses. It remains to be seen if Meta provides the same level of integration with its social media and messaging platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as it does with its own smart glasses. The post Samsung’s smart glasses need to surpass Meta’s new offering to succeed appeared first on SamMobile.
