The suspended principal, however, has rejected the allegations against him.Confirming the development, a senior university official told The Indian Express, “This issue has been going on for the last five months. We formed a fact-finding committee after complaints were filed by the victims and with the go-ahead of the vice-chancellor, the college’s governing body took the decision to suspend the principal. The matter will now be investigated by the Internal Complaints Committee. It has been two days since his suspension.”Faculty members said that the allegations are not isolated. In a message circulated in a WhatsApp group of the college staff association, one faculty member wrote that “more than 12 female teachers were subjected to misbehaviour…”Rejecting the charges, the suspended principal sought to portray himself as a victim of a “conspiracy”.In a letter dated September 13 to the Prime Minister’s Office, he wrote that a “false complaint of harassment” was lodged against him and alleged that he was “subjected to unethical pressure from different corners to promote her (the complainant) failing which threats of framing me in sexual harassment case”.He further contended that the complaint had bypassed the statutory route prescribed under the University Grants Commission rules and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act. “It is pertinent to submit that the complaint was not submitted to the Internal Complaints Committee, as mandated… Instead it was addressed to the then Chairman, Governing Body of the College and later to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi. It is noteworthy to highlight that neither authority referred the matter to the ICC, even after six months.”Story continues below this adIn his communication, he “categorically” denied all allegations, calling them “false, fabricated, politically motivated and devoid of merit,” and urged action against “all those directly or indirectly involved in this criminal conspiracy to defame and dislodge” him.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:delhi university
