These included awards for alumni in various fields such as legal affairs, civil services, security affairs, and the business sector.Supreme Court Judge, Justice Manmohan, also an alumnus of the Hindu College, was the chief guest of the event. He said that both college and school play an important role in an individual’s life. “In school you are in a small cocoon, protected. But in college you discover yourself and life… the Hindu College has such a great history and our alumni have contributed a lot towards this nation,” he said.A 1987 graduate and 1991-batch Indian Foreign Service officer who is currently the Indian Ambassador to the Republic of Türkiye, Muktesh Pardeshi, got an award of excellence in foreign affairs. “We got to learn from illustrious teachers…Hindu College offers you a creative space…,” he said.“The college never interfered with our studies or any cultural event… they gave full freedom,” echoed Ajay Verma, senior advocate who also served as Standing Counsel and Senior Standing Counsel of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for two decades. He was awarded for his excellence in legal affairs. However, for Rajiv Jain, a 1980-batch former IPS officer and the former director of Intelligence Bureau, college was always about making friends. “We used to have fun in all sorts of ways. We used to hire cycles at night and go to watch night shows at Archana or Priya cinemas and then go to Delhi airport for coffee,” he recalled.Meanwhile, for a Political Science graduate from the 1983 batch, Dr G V Rao, who is a senior advocate at the Supreme Court, classroom discussions shaped his career. “We were discussing political systems of other countries, where an argument took place after a professor said that you need to learn a country’s language to learn its political system. These kinds of things in the classroom were interesting. In the end, the professor did not agree,” he laughed.A total of 14 awards were presented to the alumni that also included an award for outstanding work in Public Service as Foreign Secretary to Vikram Misri; an award for his work in cinema and OTT to Imtiaz Ali; and one for outstanding work in Public Service as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for three terms to Pema Khandu.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Hindu College
