Shedeur Sanders left helpless by Browns playcalling as fans claim Kevin Stefanski ‘wants to be fired’

Wait 5 sec.

Shedeur Sanders entered Week 15 off the back of a career-best performance against the Tennessee Titans.Any hopes the rookie had of building on that were dashed by a combination of freezing conditions and head coach Kevin Stefanski. It’s taken over half a season, but Sanders is finally the Browns’ QB1GettyIn a tough test against the 9-4 Chicago Bears on the road in ice-cold temperatures at Soldier Field, the Cleveland Browns recorded a false start and had Stefanski send 12 men to the huddle before Sanders could even record his first snap of the game. After being backed up inside their own one-yard line on their first drive, Sanders could only hand off the ball to rookie running back Quinshon Judkins on three straight snaps before they had to punt the ball away. The Bears would score on their second drive after D’Andre Swift ran in to cap off 42-yard drive. With the Browns already having to play catch-up, Sanders tried to orchestrate a first down, scrambling for nine yards to get to the Browns to a 4th & 1 situation. However, Stefanski opted to be conservative and sent in the punt team, which left fans of the Dawg Pound enraged. “I’m going to say it. Kevin Stefanski should be fired. I’ve seen enough,” one fan posted to X (formerly Twitter). “Stefanski wants to be fired soooo bad ,” a second fan wrote. “You are 3-10, it is 4th and inches at the 40, and you bring out the punter? Stefanski is just ready to go home and be a family man,” a third commented. To rub salt into the wounds of the Browns faithful, Caleb Williams marched Chicago 80-yards down the field to tack on the Bears’ second score of the game to give them a 14-0 lead going into the second quarter. Ice-cold affair in ChicagoEntering the game, the temperature hit nine degrees, but weather reports indicated that it felt like that of minus-six.Fans have fired aim at Stefanski for his play-calling against the BearsGettySanders got his side into 4th and short, but Stefanski took him out of the game in favor of the punt teamGettyThis was Sanders’ second consecutive contest in freezing temperatures, having played in a snowy tundra in Cleveland, Ohio, against the 2025 NFL draft’s No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward and the Titans. There, he dropped a highlight reel after a stellar individual performance in which he completed 23-of-42 passing for 364 passing yards for four total touchdowns and an interception. Sanders could have even sent the game into overtime having orchestrated a late fourth-quarter touchdown that needed a two-point conversion to tie up the game. However, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski made the decision to keep his fifth-round pick off the field in the most crucial of moments, which led to a botched play and ultimately gifting the Titans just their second win of the 2025 season. But against the Bears, the Browns were depleted across the field with four starters ruled out of the contest in cornerback Denzel Ward, tight end David Njoku and offensive linemen Wyatt Teller and Jack Conklin. On the other side of the ball, Williams, a former No. 1 overall pick, entered the contest with the pressure of a victory helping Chicago to boost their chances of reaching the playoffs for the first time in six seasons.Caleb Williams was in command and got off to a hot start against the BrownsGettyAfter an inconsistent campaign in which the Bears started off the season having gone 4-2 before the bye week, and mustering just one more win on the campaign after that to finish with a brutal 5-12 record, Williams began 2025 with a new head coach at the helm. Former Detroit Lions offensive co-ordinator Ben Johnson took over the reins of the NFC North team back in January, and in his first campaign, has nurtured Williams into a playoff-caliber quarterback, despite having concerns about his signal caller during the pre-season. Entering Sunday’s game against the Browns, the 24-year-old had racked up 2,903 passing yards and 19 touchdowns to just six interceptions, whilst he had also rushed for an additional 321 yards and three scores on the ground.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the news, exclusives, interviews and more.NFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?
