Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that the government pledged a sum of €250,000 to help support Sandro Grech’s treatment.Grech is a 41-year-old father of two who is battling a rare and aggressive form of leukaemia. Following the large sum donated by the public, the Prime Minister praised the Maltese people’s generosity and solidarity.“I met Sandro when I visited the families cared for by Puttinu Cares in England. I was able to see the determination and courage he has even in a difficult moment,” wrote Abela on Facebook.The fundraiser has since been closed following the government’s contribution.Sandro has been battling the disease since January 2023, undergoing intensive chemotherapy and receiving two bone marrow transplants from his brother.
