This closure comes as a cold snap moves across Orlando, with today’s high being 64°F.Volcano Bay at Universal Studios did the same, with the tropical water park also shutting down for the day. Both water parks are scheduled to reopen tomorrow, Tuesday, December 16.“As the cold front arrives on Sunday, expect a few more clouds and the chance for isolated showers, mainly along the coast late in the day,” Click Orlando reported last week. “By Monday, Central Florida will likely wake up to chilly and breezy conditions. North winds are forecast to pick up, ranging from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph possible.”Guests can expect both Typhoon Lagoon and Volcano Bay to close multiple times over the coming months as the weather continues to get colder.As a bonus, guests checking into their Walt Disney World Resort hotel can enjoy free admission to Typhoon Lagoon. According to Runco, the Park’s name was created first, with all the other parts to follow.The centerpiece of the water park is the giant, cartoon-like boat called “Miss Tilly,” dry-docked on top of “Mount Mayday,” which shoots a 50-foot geyser of water every 30 minutes. Runco stated that his very first drawing included this boat-on-top-of-a-mountain idea, and everyone loved it, with then-Disney Parks Executive Producer Randy Bright saying “This is it!” after just one look.Disney’s water parks have quite a long and fascinating history. While Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are the only two currently featured, Disney’s first water park was actually River Country. This outdoors-themed water park was part of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and was located alongside Bay Lake.
