Wilfried Nancy has been Celtic manager for just 12 days, but concerns have already been raised about his future.Despite expressing his sympathy for the Frenchman, ex-defender Charlie Mulgrew is wondering how soon he can change their fortunes.Nancy is winless in his opening run at CelticGettyNancy joined Celtic at the beginning of December as the permanent successor to Brendan Rodgers following his resignation weeks prior. However, the 48-year-old has lost all of his three opening matches at The Bhoys as their season continues to unravel.Celtic were beaten 3-1 by St. Mirren in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday, meaning they missed out on a piece of silverware. And Mulgrew, who made 208 appearances for Celtic, believes that the atmosphere around the club won’t do Nancy any favours.“I feel for Nancy because he’s following a guy like Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney, and Mark Fotheringham, and the rest of the staff who’ve done an amazing job to lift that team,” he told talkSPORT.“He brought that confidence back and now Nancy has to follow that act and he’s come in in a week where he played Hearts at home, probably the toughest game in Scotland right now. “He’s then had Roma and the Europa League at home against Celtic Park and then you go and play a cup final. So it’s a really hard week and for players to believe and trust in a manager and have confidence in a manager you need to win games. “And he started with three defeats in a row, I just don’t know if there’s any way back. It really felt like a complete disconnect. “The disconnect with the board and the fans and the players has been there even when Martin O’Neill was there but at least the connection between the players, the manager and the staff you could see was there and the staff. “Now that’s disconnected, it’s just a complete disconnect everywhere and it really needs to change quickly.”Nancy faces a battle to pick up wins, and fastGettyWhen asked about how long Nancy has in the job, Mulgrew replied: “He’s been in the door 11 days so it seems really really harsh. But a lot’s happened in that 11 days… “I don’t see how it’s going to change quickly for him because of course I know football and I know you win the next game and things change quickly… But I don’t see wins coming. I just can’t. “After that defeat yesterday I do not see where wins are coming from because it’s that disconnected… there’s just a disconnect between everybody. You can feel on the pitch, you can clearly see it. “The players looked tired, I know it’s a third game in a week but I think when you’re overloaded with information like that, everything just seems much more of an effort. Nothing’s flowing there.”O’Neill: Nancy needs timeTwo decades after leaving his post as Celtic manager, during which he won three league titles, O’Neill replaced Rodgers in an interim role.He won seven of his eight matches back at the club and admitted to talkSPORT he would have been happy to stay on.O’Neill has warned Celtic that Nancy needs more time to make a differenceGettyHowever, O’Neill says Nancy needs more time as when he was asked if their form is recoverable, he said: “Absolutely, of course it is. “And I’m not just saying that. It is recoverable, of course. You’re in the football club 10 or 12 days and even though you probably have watched the team play, and you know, you know, you still have to learn about the players.“I had to learn about the players myself. I got great help from the coaching staff. And I felt, as I said earlier, you know, young men involved in the game who have been involved heavily in the game.“Shaun Maloney’s been a manager at his own stages. And so I leaned on certain things. But in many aspects, it was a throwback to my earlier days there going into the football club, allowing coaches like Steve Walford to go and coach. “And I will oversee things and then put my stamp, for want of a better word, on the team.”O’Neill added: “No, you cannot make a judgment on anybody over three games. I don’t care about the matches, the matches were difficult. Celtic face the prospect of going trophyless this seasonGetty“Roma was going to be a difficult game, whether you’re playing at home or not. You know, Hearts was the top of the table clash, and a cup final, a cup final’s a cup final. “You have got to give a manager some time.”
