The Ambedkar Students’ Association (ASA) of the Central University of Karnataka (CUK) has written to all Members of Parliament from Karnataka, seeking their intervention over alleged large-scale violations of reservation norms and manipulation of the post-based roster in faculty and non-teaching recruitments at the university. In a representation dated December 13, the students’ body alleged that the existing administration, under Vice-Chancellor Battu Satyanarayana, had altered the 200-point post-based reservation roster in violation of the government norms, thereby reducing opportunities for candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. The association said the CUK, the only central university in the State and located in the educationally backward district of Kalaburagi, was established to serve as an academic hub for marginalised regions. It alleged that the objective had, however, been undermined by “partisan administrative decisions” and deliberate roster manipulation to accommodate favoured candidates, seriously compromising social justice and institutional integrity.According to the representation, more than 80 teaching posts across the ranks of professor, associate professor and assistant professor have already been filled using what it termed a “manipulated roster”. In addition, over 50 more posts have reportedly been notified on the basis of the same altered roster, the association claimed. The students’ body contended that the alleged violations amounted to a denial of constitutionally guaranteed reservation rights under Articles 14, 16(4), 16(4A) and 335 of the Constitution, particularly affecting SC, ST and OBC communities.Seeking immediate corrective action, the ASA has urged MPs to raise the matter in Parliament and press for a judicial inquiry or a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged irregularities. It has also demanded that all ongoing and proposed recruitment processes at the university be put on hold until a thorough investigation into the roster violations is completed.A detailed note, along with 13 annexures, containing documentary evidence has been enclosed with the representation for examination and further action.Published - December 14, 2025 07:24 pm IST
