By: Express News ServiceLudhiana | December 20, 2025 06:25 AM IST 2 min readA video purportedly of the incident later surfaced on social media, showing a clash between two groups, with both groups attacking each other with sticks and bricks.As many as 18 Congress leaders and workers were booked on the attempt to murder charge in connection with the firing reported during the violence at an Aam Aadmi Party victory rally in Ludhiana’s Bachitar Nagar area on Thursday evening that left five AAP workers injured, police said on Friday, adding that three of them have been arrested.Of the 18 accused, six have been named in the FIR, while 12 are yet to be identified, police said.The named accused, police said, include Congress leader Jasbir Singh Gill, Udayvir, Ajayvir, Narinder Ninda, Tejinder Singh Laddi and Harpal Babbu. Jasbir Singh Gill, who unsuccessfully contested the recently concluded block samiti elections, is absconding, police said.The incident occurred around 5:30 pm on Thursday, when AAP workers were taking out a rally to celebrate the victory of Sukhbir Singh Khanna, who had defeated Jasbir Singh Gill in the block samiti polls.A video purportedly of the incident later surfaced on social media, showing a clash between two groups, with both groups attacking each other with sticks and bricks.AAP workers alleged that Gill opened fire at their supporters during the rally.On Friday, the district Congress questioned the police action.Former Congress MLA from Gill Constituency Kuldeep Singh Vaid claimed that the violence was triggered after AAP workers misbehaved with Congress leader Pooja, a panchayat member, during the rally.Story continues below this adAccording to Vaid, “Pooja called Gill for help. AAP workers challenged Gill and attempted to attack him with swords, forcing him to fire on the ground and not at anyone in self-defence. Police booked Congress workers without registering a cross FIR against AAP workers.”Vaid alleged that Congress leader Pooja, block samiti member Tejinder Singh Laddi, and Narinder Ninda were named in the case despite having no role in the clash.He claimed that Gill’s wife was illegally detained and that family members of Congress workers were being harassed.The Congress demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
