Nine arrested by Mumbai police for supplying heroin

(File Photo)THE MUMBAI police busted a gang who were allegedly supplying heroin in the city ahead of New Year’s Eve. Nine persons, including three women were arrested by the police. The police are currently on the lookout for the kingpin.An officer said on December 16, two persons were arrested from Masjid Bunder by the Pydhonie police for having 326.22 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs. 1.30 crores in their possession for the purpose of transporting and selling. Subsequently an FIR was registered and the two accused were questioned regarding the source of the contraband. The duo told the police that they got the narcotics from one Rubina Khan (30) who was then traced and arrested.During interrogation, Rubina told the police that Shabnam Shaikh was the one who supplied the drugs to her. Based on a technical probe, the police located Shabnam in Ajmer, Rajasthan where she was placed under arrest. The police also learnt that a 19-year-old girl Muskan Shaikh had handed over the heroin to Rubina following which she too was arrested from the premises of Masjid Bunder.Muskan said a man called Meherban Ali was the one who would supply narcotics which she passed on to others in South Mumbai. She told the police that he was going to come to deliver drugs on December 24 following which, the police laid a trap and arrested a person who turned out to be one Abdul Qadir Shaikh who told the police he had come at the behest of Ali. The police found heroin worth Rs 1.38 crores from him.Abdul then led the police to the Oshiwara address of Meherban Ali. When the police conducted a raid there, while Ali was not found, three others were found in the room who were making small packets of heroin to sell across the city. The police seized heroin worth Rs 33 crores in the international market. An officer said that they are on the lookout for Ali who is suspected to be the kingpin of the entire operation.“A total of six men and three women have been arrested and over 8 kgs heroin worth Rs 36 crores has been seized in the case.
