A 2-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday means they are still within touching distance of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.Villa are just three points adrift of the Gunners in top spot having won 11 of their last 12 matches in the top flight. That marks quite the turnaround from the start of the season, which saw Unai Emery’s side fail to win any of their first five matches. In many ways, it was a typical Villa win last time out. United were equal to their opponents across the pitch, yet they left empty-handed. Morgan Rogers was Villa’s hero, scoring two fine goals to give his team the victory. His first strike was outstanding, rifled into the far corner from the edge of the box.It was another afternoon in which Villa outperformed their expected goals. The underlying numbers showed that United created the better chances overall, but Villa made the most of their opportunities and their opponents did not.The xG data has been used against Villa up to now. In the xG difference table, Emery’s charges rank a lowly 14th, below the likes of Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Everton. Meanwhile 10 of the 27 goals they have scored in 2025/26 have been from outside the box, the highest proportion in the division. That will surely prove unsustainable. However, it would be a mistake to write off Villa entirely based on the xG data. Those numbers simply reflect what has happened so far. It does not mean Villa are destined to perform the same way for the rest of the campaign.Chelsea were involved in a game of two halves last time out. Enzo Maresca’s men barely turned up in the first 45 minutes against Newcastle United and duly trailed 2-0 at the break.Chelsea looked like a different team in the second period. Reece James halved the deficit with a tremendous free-kick, before Joao Pedro restored parity in the 66th minute. In many ways the game was the perfect illustration of where Chelsea are at: an excellent team when they are on song, but a mediocre one when they are not. Inconsistency continues to haunt Maresca’s side. That is the downside of having such a young side, and if Chelsea are not careful it could prevent them securing a top-four finish.Chelsea vs Aston Villa betting tipsChelsea and Aston Villa will go head-to-head in a tantalising encounter at Stamford Bridge.Villa to get somethingAston Villa have won seven Premier League games in a row, with the last six of those victories coming by a one-goal margin.Villa have an admirable knack for edging tight matches and they will aim to do so again at Stamford Bridge. It is difficult to see either team dominating this encounter. Chelsea struggle to produce 90-minute performances, while Villa have only won two games this term by a two-goal margin or more.Emery’s side have shown themselves to be difficult to beat, and given Chelsea’s home record is mediocre, the visitors can get something on Saturday. Go for an Aston Villa win or a draw at 10/11 with Tote Goals at both endsChelsea did not look like scoring in the first half against Newcastle, but they created plenty of opportunities after the break. The Blues have found the back of the net in all but one of their Premier League games since the opening weekend of the campaign. Both teams have scored in five of Aston Villa’s last six top-flight fixtures, so Chelsea will be confident of finding the back of the net.At the same time, Villa have the attacking quality to breach the hosts’s backline at Stamford Bridge. Tip both teams to score at 4/6 with Spreadex Rogers to continue fine formIt is easy to forget now but Morgan Rogers had a poor start to the season.Remarkably, he was jeered by a section of the Villa Park crowd during a Europa League game against Bologna in September.Needless to say, no one is booing now. Rogers has been sensational in recent weeks, with his match-winning brace against Manchester United just his latest fine performance.Ollie Watkins has not been at his best of late, leaving Rogers as Villa’s most likely goal-getter in west London. The attacking midfielder can make his mark again here. Choose Morgan Rogers to score any time at 3/1 with 247Bet Chelsea vs Aston Villa predicted lineupsChelsea expected lineup: Sanchez; James, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Neto, Palmer, Garnacho; Pedro.
