The film, which also stars Ananya Panday and is backed by Karan Johar, was hyped as the big romantic comedy of the season. However, early box office results suggest that the film has struggled to connect with audiences.Released on Christmas, the film failed to post a strong opening, collecting only single-digit figures. Matters worsened on Day 2, when the film registered its first significant drop. While a decline was anticipated given that the second day fell on a working day after the Christmas holiday, the weak festive opening combined with a further fall has made the situation increasingly challenging. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, early estimates indicate that the film earned Rs 5 crore on its second day (a drop of 35.5% from its Day 1 collection of Rs 7.75 crore), taking its total domestic net collection to Rs 12.75 crore.Occupancy figures also paint a concerning picture. On Day 2, the film recorded an overall occupancy of just 19.92%. Morning shows opened at a low 7.28% occupancy, which improved to 18.49% during the afternoon. However, growth remained limited thereafter, with evening shows recording 23.15% occupancy and night shows closing at 30.76%. Delhi-NCR accounted for the highest number of shows at 564 but recorded an occupancy of only 21.75%. Mumbai followed with 428 shows and performed marginally better, registering an occupancy of 25.25%.Also Read | The MATH of making a blockbuster trailer: What made 4-minute Dhurandhar trailer stand out, ‘Ranveer Singh appeared for only 1 minute’When viewed against Kartik Aaryan’s recent filmography, the performance appears particularly disappointing. His previous romantic drama Satyaprem Ki Katha collected Rs 14.35 crore in its first two days. Even Love Aaj Kal, which released just before the pandemic and was widely regarded as a box office disappointment, managed better with Rs 20.41 crore in the same period. Kartik’s earlier collaboration with Ananya, Pati Patni Aur Woh, another pre-pandemic release, did better by earning Rs 21.43 crore in its first two days, while Luka Chuppi, his romantic comedy with Kriti Sanon, collected Rs 18.8 crore. The film is also facing intense competition at the box office. Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025, continues to dominate even in its fourth week, earning Rs 15 crore on its fourth Friday and pushing its total domestic collection beyond Rs 648.5 crore. James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, now in its second week, has already amassed Rs 117 crore, earning Rs 7.5 crore on its second Friday (nearly matching the opening-day figures of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri). Comparisons with other romantic comedies released this year further highlight the film’s underwhelming run, with titles such as Bhool Chuk Maaf (Rs 16.5 crore), Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat (Rs 16.75 crore), Param Sundari (Rs 16.75 crore) and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (Rs 14.75 crore) all did better over comparable periods. With mixed word of mouth, mounting competition at the ticket window, and another release, Sriram Raghavan’s Ikkis, arriving in the coming days, it remains to be seen whether Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s film can gain momentum or continue its downward trajectory.Click here to follow Screen Digital on YouTube and stay updated with the latest from the world of cinema.© IE Online Media Services Pvt Ltd
