The FTA is one of the fastest to be agreed upon by India in the context of FTAs aligning with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The negotiations were officially launched during a meeting held on March 16, 2025, between Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister for Trade and Investment of New Zealand, Todd McClay.
