'I've backed myself' – Calvert-Lewin revels in career-best scoring streakShareDominic Calvert-Lewin has now scored seven goals in the space of six Premier League games, and is enjoying a career-best run of form.Leeds United's in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin says he had to overcome a "test of character" but that he always backed himself to regain his best form.Calvert-Lewin netted once again, taking his tally of Premier League goals for the season to eight as Leeds drew 1-1 with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The 28-year-old has now netted in six straight Premier League matches for the first time in his career, surpassing the five successive top-flight games he scored in for Everton at the start of the 2020-21 season. That run of form, which came under Carlo Ancelotti, was put to Calvert-Lewin, but he is focused on the present as he looks to put his final, injury-hit couple of seasons at Everton, for whom he nevertheless scored some vital goals, behind him."People love to hang onto that, don't they? That was a long time ago," Calvert-Lewin told BBC Sport when asked if he was in his best form since the 2020-21 campaign."I've been through a lot since then. Lots of ups and lots of downs. A test of character, and I've hung in there and kept going and kept pushing. I've backed myself, and here I am now."This is now Calvert-Lewin's best season in terms of a goal return since 2020-21. He managed just 17 league goals for the Toffees between the start of the 2021-22 campaign and the end of last term, hugely underperforming his 32.3 expected goals."It's always a good feeling to be scoring regularly," Calvert-Lewin said."I'm in a good moment at the minute. My timing is good. As a team, we're gelling a bit more. Things are going well for us."You're in flow. You can make those runs as a centre-forward, and sometimes the ball doesn't find you when you're in a dry spell. But you've just got to keep doing it and hope that the tide will turn, and that's what has happened for me at the moment."I'm feeling good, feeling strong, and I'm enjoying playing with the lads."Calvert-Lewin scored in the 47th minute of Sunday's contest, cancelling out a fine first-half opener from Simon Adingra. The winger is one of Sunderland's African contingent, but he was not called up by the defending Africa Cup of Nations champions Ivory Coast, for this edition of the tournament.Adingra is now looking to hit his best form for the Black Cats after that "painful" omission."It's my first goal at home here," Adingra told Sky Sports."It was a tough moment for me [missing out on AFCON], but I have an opportunity now to show the coach I can also step up. It's down to me now."I've had a difficult start to the season. I was not playing a lot, and that's why I've not gone to AFCON. It was painful for me and my family. I have a chance now, so I will try and take it."'I've backed myself' – Calvert-Lewin revels in career-best scoring streakDominic Calvert-Lewin has now scored seven goals in the space of six Premier League games, and is enjoying a career-best run of form.Leeds United's in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin says he had to overcome a "test of character" but that he always backed himself to regain his best form.Calvert-Lewin netted once again, taking his tally of Premier League goals for the season to eight as Leeds drew 1-1 with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
