(Express file photo)Mumbai on Saturday recorded the coldest night of the season as the minimum (night) temperature recorded at the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory was 14.6 degrees Celcius—3.4 degrees below the normal.Prior to this, Mumbai recorded a night temperature of 14.9 degrees Celsius on December 13 this year. Weather officials said Mumbai will continue to experience cooler night temperatures in the days to come.“This is a normal weather phenomenon and at present, there is no probability of western disturbances, which is why the air flow and circulation will remain the same. We can expect the temperature to stay on these lines for the next few days, which means that Mumbai’s city and suburbs will continue to experience colder nights,” Sushma Nair, scientist at the IMD Mumbai told The Indian Express.The night temperature recorded in Mumbai on Saturday was also the second lowest during the winter season since 2018 and the third lowest in the past decade. According to the weather bureau, on December 28, 2018, the Santacruz observatory recorded a night temperature of 14.4 degrees Celsius. On December 24, 2015, Mumbai recorded a night temperature of 11.4 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest minimum temperature recorded in the last decade.Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum (day) temperature of 33.8 degrees, which was one degree above the normal.
