Further investigation is underway.Two alleged auto-lifters, who secretly installed GPS devices in cars that came to their mechanic workshop for repair to track their movements for weeks before stealing them, were arrested in Dwarka’s Bindapur, police said.The arrests of accused Amir (38) and Sarwar Ali (37) followed the theft of a Hyundai i20 car, reported from Mohan Garden in Uttam Nagar on December 8. The complainant had parked her car overnight after it broke down, but found it missing the next morning.CCTV footage showed one of the accused arriving in a i10 car fleeing with the parked car. After scanning footage of nearly 300 CCTV cameras, police traced the i10 and identified Amir as its buyer. He and Sarwar were subsequently detained.During questioning, police said, the accused allegedly disclosed that whenever vehicles were brought to their workshops, they installed GPS trackers, got duplicate keys made from a key maker, and waited for an opportunity to steal the cars by tracking their location.Police have recovered three stolen cars, the Hyundai i10 used in the crime, nine number plates, an iPad and a scanning sensor from the accused.
