Joshi and his family had denied the allegations.A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Vishrambag police station following a complaint by Mangesh Khare, a Sadashiv Peth resident.Police officials said Joshi was arrested last year after his anticipatory bail applications were rejected by the court. According to prison authorities, Joshi was unwell and was being provided treatment as he was under judicial custody granted by the court.Joshi’s lawyer had filed an application before a Pune court seeking bail on medical grounds, but it was pending.Sunil Dhamal, Superintendent, Yerwada Central Prison, said Joshi underwent surgery a week ago. “Today morning, he was taken to the hospital again due to an illness, but he died,” said Dhamal.Joshi was a BJP corporator from Pune’s Sadashiv Peth area from 1997 to 2002. He was also the former chairman of the Ninand Urban Credit Cooperative Society in Pune.
