Eddy Kenzo has spoken out strongly against efforts by some artists to form alternative musician federations, insisting that there can only be one official body representing the industry; the Uganda National Musicians Federation.Kenzo’s remarks come amid growing tensions within the music fraternity, sparked by threats from a group of disgruntled artists led by Ziza Bafana, who recently hinted at establishing a separate federation to better advocate for musicians’ rights and interests.Addressing the issue, Kenzo emphasized that the current legal and structural framework only allows for one national federation. He pointed out that the UNMF’s identity is firmly rooted in its national mandate. In the music industry, we are only allowed to have one federation. I don’t know when that will be amended to have more, and today the Uganda National Musicians Federation, anything with ‘Uganda’ and ‘National,’ that is us.The singer, who has been at the forefront of organizing musicians under the UNMF umbrella, cautioned fellow artists against letting personal differences derail collective progress. Ziza Bafana plans new musicians federation amid SACCO fund disputeHe urged those considering breaking away to instead join forces with existing leadership for the greater good of the industry.Kenzo also addressed concerns that some artists view his leadership as intimidating or exclusionary, dismissing such sentiments as rooted in ego and jealousy. This is our term, and the next one can be yours or someone else’s. Uganda is ours and the job is ours. We are working for our children and grandchildren. Right now, you might distance yourself because of jealousy and ego, but your child might become a singer and need the voice you put back in the day so they don’t face the same problems. @galaxytvug In the music industry, we are only allowed to have one federation.
