/u/ProffesorSpitfire on Listed my old IKEA desk for free on Marketplace. The entitlement in my DMs is something else.

Wait 5 sec.

I’ve only ever used Facebook Marketplace once, I’ll never use it again. I was moving and had to get rid of a couple of things that I couldn’t bring to the new place, but they were in good condition so I didn’t want to just toss them. Made a post listing all the things, including very clear terms: - Everything is free - Pick-up only - First come, first served - Contact me via the comments on the post, not DM, that way others can see what’s taken and I don’t have to reply to 25 people wondering if X is still available Within minutes somebody wrote in the comments that they wanted my old PS2, I replied that it’s yours and we agreed on a time. Over the following hours I got like 10 DMs asking if it was still available, and a few people tried to persuade me to blow off the person I had already agreed to give it to, because they really wanted it, they couldn’t afford one that wasn’t free, etc. Somebody called my couch in the comments, I replied that it was theirs. Minutes later they sent a DM asking if I could deliver it to their place. I said no. They played their trump card: I don’t have a car. I played my UNO reverse card: neither do I. They argued that if they had to pay somebody to deliver it for them, it wasn’t really free, I promised a free couch so I should contract a firm to have it delivered to them. I blocked them and removed their comment, making the couch available again. Somebody called dibs on a fan/AC thingy, I said it’s yours, they said they’d come by and it up a few days later. Somebody else DMs me a while later asking if it’s available, I reply no. They say that they can come get it sooner than the other guy (so they already knew it was taken when they wrote me), I said thanks, but we’ve already agreed, so no. They offered to pay $20 for it, I rejected it since I had already promised it to somebody. They offered $50 for it - I said ”I bought it new for $70 two years ago, it’s still available in stores for about that price, that’s probably better value than my used one for $50, and like I’ve already explained, it’s taken.” They threw a fit about how it wasn’t fair that I wouldn’t ”sell” it to the highest bidder.
